Many freeways have concrete surfaces, but their foundation is asphalt. Most residential roads, and city streets are made of asphalt. Asphalt is delivered to the job site between 300-325 degrees; it is important that it be installed while hot for optimum compaction. In most cases asphalt is installed using a self propelled asphalt paver. It is then compacted with an asphalt roller. One of the benefits of asphalt is you can use it as soon as it cools down.
